Genentech is a biotechnology company founded in 1976 by Robert Swanson and Herbert Boyer and headquartered in South San Francisco; it became a member of the Roche Group in March 2009. It discovers and develops medicines in oncology, neuroscience, ophthalmology and obesity. In 2021 it acquired deep-learning protein design company Prescient Design into its Computational Sciences organization, runs a 'lab in the loop' ML-experiment cycle for antibody and drug design, and in 2023 entered a multi-year AI research collaboration with NVIDIA.
