SVTR Index

SVTR AI Venture Activity Index

SVTR VAI for short

One number a week that measures how active the global AI venture market is. Each of the four sub-indices is set to 100 at its median over the base period (2025, 52 issues), then combined into this one number as a weighted geometric mean.

169.5
vs last issue +13.8 pts|vs base +69.5%|YoY +44%

“Pts” are index points, not percentages. The base level is 100, so “vs base” equals the index minus 100.

Issue #180 · 10/19–10/25 · Final

So far this week: 0 rounds recorded, $0.00B disclosed (Issue #181 · 10/26–11/1, data as of 10/25)

This is this week’s collection progress. It grows daily and is not converted into an index value. The index only moves forward once an issue closes (this issue closes 11/1): computing an index on a half-collected week would show a drop in our data entry, not in the market.

Each issue covers one full calendar week (Monday to Sunday, US Pacific), but each point is computed on the 4 weeks up to that issue (a 28-day window), so neighbouring points mostly overlap and the curve is already smoothed. Four things make up this number

The four contributions add up exactly to the change in the headline index (+13.8 pts). Sub-indices use the same scale as the headline: base = 100.

How to read this number

100 is the base, not a pass mark. Above 100 means hotter than the median level of 2025; below means cooler.

It is not seasonally adjusted. It dips every year around New Year (the funding announcement lull from Christmas to New Year). Don’t read that as the market cooling; compare year over year for the trend.

It measures activity, not direction. Deal activity and capital inflow are volume measures, so the curve answers “how hot is it now”, not “what happens next”.

Methodology: base period, cap, and how the four combine

Each sub-index has its own base. Over 2025-01-05 to 2025-12-28 (52 issues), each sub-index takes its own median as 100; the current value divided by it gives that sub-index’s relative level, and the four are combined as a weighted geometric mean. So the headline’s median over the base period is not exactly 100: the base is the zero point of each of the four scales, not of the headline.

Each round’s contribution is capped. Any single round counts for at most $500M in capital inflow. This issue’s raw disclosed total is $30.22B; the amount counted in the index is $23.69B (11 rounds hit the cap). The cap makes the index measure the market’s breadth rather than be pushed up by a single mega-round.

How the four combine. Index = 100 × (deal activity relative level^0.3 × capital inflow^0.25 × investor participation^0.25 × market breadth^0.2). A geometric mean means one sub-index halving is not fully offset by another doubling, and it lets the change be split exactly into the four contributions shown on the cards above.

The time axis is the SVTR weekly issue number. An issue covers Monday to Sunday (US Pacific), on the same axis as our weekly market review. It counts the week a round was tracked rather than the week it happened; the two match for about 90% of events.

Revision policy
The index moves forward only after an issue closes; each issue has one final value and is then frozen. Any later correction is logged and archived, never changed silently. A week that isn’t fully collected gets no index value; only its collection progress is shown above.
Methodology version
v1.7, parameters frozen and archived on Sep 4, 2026. Any change of definition ships as a new version with the full series recomputed, so historical values are reproducible. Full definitions: Methodology.
