It is not a standalone legal entity; it operates within Futures Action Network LLC, a for-profit firm, is funded by the couple's private foundation, and supports science and technology research, including AI and synthetic biology, and talent programs. In 2023 it co-founded Kyutai, a nonprofit AI lab in Paris, with Xavier Niel and Rodolphe Saadé. In 2024 its science funding was spun off as Schmidt Sciences, and its website now redirects there.
