On October 14 Modal raised $750M at a $15.75B valuation, 3.4 times its level five months earlier and both times under 16x annualized revenue; on October 12 Infinigence AI announced a RMB 2.3B Series C, and on October 15 China Telecom led Qingcheng.AI's round. Our view: in the compute middle layer between chips and models, the US prices on revenue while China prices on making domestic chips usable. SiliconFlow, the only one with disclosed revenue, is valued at about 140x its 2025 full-year revenue, and the money comes from carriers, cloud companies, chipmakers and local state funds.

The Tian Keyu Affair: Why Can China’s Venture Media No Longer Report on Controversy?
After Tian Keyu’s world-model startup raised nearly $30 million, the founder, his former colleagues, his investors and three venture media outlets all told different stories, yet none completed an independent reconstruction of the facts at the heart of the dispute. TypeSafe Valued at $7.5B, at Least a Quarter Below the Rumor
TypeSafe AI closed an $870M Series A at $7.5B on October 9, at least a quarter below the $10B-plus reported in talks two weeks earlier, as OpenAI, Amazon, Cloudflare and Microsoft shipped rival decision models, Microsoft at Jev's exact price. Of six companies with a $5B+ Series A in the SVTR AI Venture Database since 2024, it is the only one matched product-for-product and price-for-price by large companies mid-negotiation.

In February 2026 Celestial AI sold itself to Marvell. A month later Ayar Labs, working on the same problem, raised a $500 million Series E at a $3.75 billion valuation. The SVTR AI Venture Database shows it is the only one of 61 interconnect companies backed by NVIDIA, AMD and Intel alike. We argue the valuation pays for a neutral position, which pays off only when a major puts its optical chiplets into production racks.
Compute Financing Has Changed: $9.56 Billion Went Into Convertibles
Who's Investing | October 2026 · Sector: From September 12 to October 11, compute took 46.6% of all disclosed AI funding, up from 10.9% over the prior 12 months. Three of the four largest deals were convertibles: CoreWeave's convertible notes, Nscale's pre-IPO convertible notes and convertible preferred stock in Axiom, the business Flex is spinning off. Together they signed $9.56 billion, or 56.4% of disclosed compute funding, of which $1 billion has not yet arrived. Across the previous 12 months' 301 compute rounds, the SVTR AI Venture Database recorded no convertible deals. Each deal protects investors differently; what they share is pricing debt protection, preferred returns and upside in a single contract.
