The SVTR AI Venture Activity Index fell 2.1% to 171.9 this week, 71.9% above its 2025 median level. Among sub-sectors, transport and logistics (+9.7%) and legal services (+7.6%) led the gains, while optimization and evals fell 3.1%.
There were 92 confirmed rounds with $10.3B disclosed. The ten largest totaled about $8B, and $2B of that did not come through a standard equity round: the $2.5B raised by military drone maker Shield AI includes structured equity from Blackstone and a loan arranged by JPMorgan, and the $500M raised by sales-agent company Nooks is repaid out of revenue and takes no stake.
New this week: when you share a funding round or IPO from AI Venture Stream, the share card now shows the round's highlights, the listing venue and a short company description.

2. Our Take
- Big rounds now come with loans and structured capital. The ten largest rounds totaled about $8B, and $2B of that did not come through a standard equity round. Beyond its $1B Series H equity, Shield AI took $1B of structured equity (equity with special terms, not disclosed) from Blackstone-managed funds and a $500M loan arranged by JPMorgan. Nooks' $500M came from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund and is repaid out of revenue (see Table 3). Neros is also funding its factory mainly with a government loan (see Table 1). Our view: companies with government contracts or predictable revenue are starting to replace some equity with money they can repay from cash flow, reducing dilution. What to watch is whether companies without government orders behind them can borrow the same way.
Table 3 | Issue #182: Loans and Structured Capital in AI Rounds
| Company | What it does | Total ($B) | Beyond standard equity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shield AI | Military drones and autonomy software | 2.5 | $1B structured equity from Blackstone; $500M loan arranged by JPMorgan |
| CesiumAstro | Satellite communications payloads and satellites | 0.83 | $100M loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States and JPMorgan |
| Nooks | AI agents for sales teams | 0.5 | All of it, repaid from revenue, no stake |
| Future Secure AI | Sydney; AI co-workers for companies | 0.082 | All convertible notes, converting at its planned listing |
Data: SVTR AI venture database, as of 2026-11-08. CesiumAstro's $830M includes $730M of equity; only the equity is counted in this week's total.
Drone and space companies took about half of this week's money. Shield AI, drone delivery company Zipline, CesiumAstro and satellite ground station company Northwood Space raised $5.1B between them. The same day, Shield AI signed a deal to buy solid-state radar maker Echodyne in a transaction valued at $5.3B. Our view: most of this money goes into production lines and satellites. Zipline is expanding its US factories, CesiumAstro is building a 737-satellite constellation, and Neros plans to make one million drones a year by 2028. The heavier the build-out, the larger the share of loans is likely to become.
Security companies are buying tools that monitor AI agents. CrowdStrike signed a deal to buy Fiddler AI, which does observability and evaluation for AI agents; Cyera is in talks on a new round at about $20B (see Table 1); and Sentra, which secures data for AI agents, raised a $150M Series C. Our view: once companies put AI agents into production systems, recording what an agent did and which data it touched is becoming its own line in the security budget.
